Union Catholic’s Brian McMillan and Zach Piazza were honored at the New Jersey State House in Trenton on Thursday for their award winning Catholic Schools Week video project in a contest sponsored by the New Jersey Network of Catholic School Families.
The theme of the project was “Why I Love My Catholic School’’.
McMillan and Piazza were selected as the video winners for schools within the Archdiocese of Newark. They each received a special certificate in recognition of outstanding achievement conveying Catholic schools as communities that Learn, Serve, Lead and Succeed.
Piazza and McMillan, both seniors, were joined at the State House by award winning students from the Dioceses of Trenton, Camden, Metuchen and Paterson. Thursday’s event included a tour of the State House.
“The video had to be 30 seconds or less, and we incorporated how our school helps you learn, lead, succeed and serve, so we decided to show an example of UC students doing each of those things and we also had some teachers on the video,’’ said McMillan.
Piazza said it was a nice surprise to win.
“We had a lot of fun making the video, and to win and be recognized for it was a nice surprise,’’ said Piazza.
McMillan said the whole experience was exciting.
“It was a very cool experience,’’ said McMillan. “I had been to the State House once before on a class trip, so I knew what to expect. But it was still very exciting and a lot of fun.’’
