Union Catholic held a prayer service on Monday to honor the memory of the victims of 9/11

The Union Catholic Community paused in prayer on Monday morning to honor the memory of the victims of 9/11.

Mr. John Becht, a Campus Minister at UC, and UC peer ministers Nick Chirichillo, Aidan Reidy, Adela Rakoski, and Megan Falvey all delivered prayers that aired over UCTV. A moment of silence was also observed.

Mr. Becht said 9/11 is an important day of remembrance for all Americans.

“Today's prayer service provides a small way for our school community to never forget the tragic events of 9/11,’’ said Mr. Becht. “A day which has forever changed not only our nation, but our world. Through prayer we can hopefully memorialize those who lost their lives, provide some sort of comfort to their families, and to remind all that through prayer we can overcome violence and hate.’’

A 9/11 memorial, designed and constructed by 2004 UC graduate Ted McKeown IV to earn his Eagle Scout Badge, is located at the end of a short brick path located outside the main entrance to Union Catholic. On a thick gray piece of granite it reads, "In loving memory of those lost on the tragic day of 9-11-01. God Bless America.'' Above that inscription is a cross, which was cut from steel beams from the World Trade Center.
