UC graduate Jeffery Xin Earns Prestigious Silver Medal For Photography

After Jeffery Xin recently earned a prestigious silver medal from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, which are presented by the Alliance For Young Artists and Writers, he said his experience as a student at Union Catholic was a big reason for his success.

Xin, an international student who graduated from UC last May and is now studying at the Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City, won the silver medal for his photograph, Believer, which is now being displayed in the Bronx Documentary Center.
“I am really happy to have this honor,’’ said Xin. “It offers lots of confidence and is an important part of an artist's career.
Xin said being a part of the Photography Club at UC helped him immensely.
“I found the Photography Club, moderated by Mrs. (Rebecca) Rotondo with my friend when I was in 11th grade,’’ said Xin, who would like to become an interior designer or architect in the future. “I became the President of the club, and it gave me a great platform to share my photos with different people at Union Catholic, and it offered me the opportunities to take the drone photo for Union Catholic.’’
Xin is very grateful for how much the faculty and staff at Union Catholic helped him get where he is today.
“I am really honored to have studied at Union Catholic,’’ said Xin. “I have so many good memories. Union Catholic provided me with different ways to improve my academic and creative ability. One thing I really liked was the way Union Catholic teachers always provided extra help for students, which was really helpful for me as an international student.’’

Rebecca Schroppe, the art teacher at Union Catholic, said Xin always displayed lots of talent and was very driven to succeed
“Jeffery is such an extremely talented and driven artist, it was such a pleasure to work with him over the years at UC,'' said Schroppe, who had Xin in her art class. "He's definitely a true artist, a learner for life, because he's someone who enjoys exploring ideas and different techniques, always looking to learn and grow. He shines in so many ways, but his photography is one I believe he is most proud of and it's so wonderful to see him receive this incredible award in this area of art. I am just so proud of him and his accomplishments!''
