Union Catholic implementing Zoom, a leader in video conferencing, to enhance on-line virtual learning

In the latest example of how Union Catholic remains on the cutting edge of technology, the school is once again demonstrating its commitment to provide the best virtual learning experience possible for its students by implementing Zoom, a leader in video conferencing, to enhance its on-line educational instruction.

Zoom, the most user-friendly product in use all over the world for business and education, specializes in video communications for today’s collaborative classrooms. Zoom is known for enriching teaching and learning for students, improving student learning outcomes, and increasing student participation and learning retention.

Union Catholic, a pioneer in the field of virtual learning, is very excited to add Zoom to its learning areas. It will be embedded into Canvas LMS (Learning Management System), which UC uses to deliver its on-line course content.

Mrs. Noreen Andrews, Union Catholic’s Virtual Learning Coordinator and an Assistant Principal at the school, said Zoom will be a great tool for UC’s faculty and students.

"I am so excited that we are able to now access Zoom for video conferencing,’’ said Mrs. Andrews. “This tool gives us another avenue of communication that will enhance those already in place. Zoom will be an embedded link in our Canvas platform. Our teachers and students will be able to have better and more efficient communication through this addition. Many teachers have already been incorporating this tool through an abbreviated, complimentary membership.  Now they will have full access to the cutting-edge functions of Zoom at their fingertips in our learning management system, Canvas."

Dr. Karen Piasecki, Union Catholic’s Associate Principal and Director of Technology, said the addition of Zoom was a group effort.

"The rapid implementation of Zoom is the result of true collaboration at UC," said Dr. Piasecki. "We are all learning together, whether that is linking Zoom to our Canvas program, activating more than 100 faculty/staff accounts, or virtually instructing everyone on how to use the multitude of Zoom features. Students will find Zoom to be intuitive and user friendly. This is a tool they will likely use beyond their UC years, so they are getting a head start on their video conferencing skills. I am so incredibly proud of the UC teachers whose adaptability, resiliency, teamwork and positivity have made week one of virtual instruction so seamless and successful."

Faculty members at Union Catholic are ecstatic with the arrival of Zoom.

“Union Catholic continues to be on the cutting edge of technology, allowing for seamless virtual instruction during these trying times,’’ said UC faculty member Mr. John Rotondo. “The addition of Zoom to our Canvas classroom will allow us to continue to promote our core value of Community and connect with our students and colleagues, which is more important than ever.’’

UC faculty member, Mr. Tim Breza, said the Union Catholic administration should be commended for adding Zoom.

"I cannot thank Principal Sister Percylee Hart, RSM, and our administrators enough for purchasing Zoom,’’ said Mr. Breza. “Zoom is another way UC continues to stay innovative in this ever-evolving 21st-century learning environment. Now more than ever we, the UC community, look for ways to find some normalcy during this very not normal time. Zoom is going to allow us to find some of that normalcy we are all craving. It will only make our already successful virtual experience that much better. I am very excited to begin this brand new journey with the Union Catholic community!"
