Young performers from Stage Craft Studio, who oversee Union Catholic's Performing Arts Company, will bring the beloved musical The Music Man JR. to the Union Catholic Theater, 1600 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains, for three performances August 28-30.
Performances are scheduled for Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, August 29, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, August 30, at 3 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 and are available online at www.stagecraftstudio.com or at the box office the day of the performance at UCHS Door 5.
Based on Meredith Willson’s Tony Award-winning musical, The Music Man JR. follows charismatic con man Harold Hill as he arrives in River City, Iowa, promising to organize a boys’ band. His plans to win over the townspeople and make a quick profit take an unexpected turn when he falls for Marian, the town librarian.
Willson’s The Music Man originally won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was adapted into the classic 1962 film starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. The film was later selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
The production features a talented cast of young performers ages 7-18. Steve and Maggie Graham direct and choreograph the production, with Scout Graham serving as musical director.
SCS performers have prepared the production in just four weeks, developing their theatrical skills while emphasizing professionalism, teamwork and dedication throughout the rehearsal process.
The Music Man JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), which supplies all authorized performance materials.
