UC faculty members share knowledge and experience about Artificial Intelligence

The Union Catholic faculty recently shared their knowledge and experience with their colleagues about Artificial Intelligence Resources in Education while developing prompt engineering skills.

Teachers were digging into AI resources, learning from each other, and building skill confidence.  Faculty presenters were key to the in-service success: A.J. Bonadies, Maryann Carolan, Dr. Marla James, Dr. Edward Sagendorf, and Kathleen Webber.

"Our faculty took a deep dive into prompt engineering and direction on ChatGPT,'' said Sagendorf. "Teachers learned about strategies and tips on how to incorporate ChatGPT in lessons and assessments. The sample lessons shared were relevant to both the Humanities and STREAM learning areas. It was a great day of collaboration and idea sharing.''

"I think many of us (faculty) were unsure of how AI would affect education earlier this year (back in the spring),'' said Webber. "However, after working with AJ Juliani during the summer and the fall, we now see how AI can be used responsibly by both students and teachers. Friday's session was great because there are so many AI tools out there now, so it's useful to hear reviews of different tools from fellow teachers before using them myself. It's great to see how different teachers in different learning areas are using AI in their classrooms. I loved hearing how other teachers like Maryann, Edward, AJ, and Marla have used AI to create lessons and presentations. AJ presented on Gamma, which I've only used a few times, and he gave me some great tips on how to make it work in the classroom.''
