Five Step Message Blocking
- As external mail is received it is checked with an external database of blacklisted IP addresses used by known spammers.
- All mail is then scanned for viruses. Mail with viruses are deleted.
- All external mail is then given a heuristic value that determines its spam probability. Values greater than 5 are deleted.
- All mail is then scanned against 20 different dictionaries and 16 sets of rules. Depending on the dictionary and rule, email is then either deleted, blocked, or allowed.
- All blocked email is reviewed and either deleted or released (this occurs once to twice a day).
Rules that affect you
- Freshmen and Sophomores can only email teachers.
- Emails to more than 40 people are delayed.
- Teacher to teacher emails (individual to individual internal) are not blocked/deleted unless they contain a virus, unaccepted attachment, or are too large.
