As part of the Union County Student Training and Enrichment Program (UC STEP), Union Catholic will be collecting canned foods for the Kans 4 Kids Civic Engagement Campaign.
The project is being held in conjunction with the Community FoodBank of N.J., which will receive all the donated cans.
Cans can be dropped off in bins at Union Catholic from Monday, March 20 through April 28, and people are also encouraged to drop off cans at the Mr. UC Paegant, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in the UC auditorium. Admission for Mr. UC costs $10 regardless of whether you donate cans or not.
The schools that are participating in the Kans 4 Kids drive will competing for a $1,000 grant, which will be issued to the school that earns the highest point total. Points are earned by collecting food items and participating in various bonus activities.
UC STEP was created to provide high school students the opportunity to develop a countywide community service around a topic they feel is important, while teaching them leadership and personal growth skills and responsibility within their communities.
