| The purpose of this course is to establish the biblical foundation for our faith. It begins with the skills needed for Bible reading and then proceeds to concentrate on the Word of God as given through the Hebrew Scriptures. The books and the themes of the Hebrew Scriptures are examined through Genesis to the Prophetic Books. Students explore the content, literary style, purposes and major themes in selected books in order to gain an appreciation of the Scriptures as being applicable to his/her own life and the contemporary world. Each semester students in all grades are required to submit a proposal, perform, and write a report for six hours of Christian service. |

| This course begins with exposing the students to a variety of the concepts of the modern Church. The models of the church are explored. The course will establish a basic understanding of what the Church is and why someone belongs to it. The student will journey through the time of the early church community, split of the East and West, Reformation, Inquisition to the present day. The emphasis during these periods will be the church councils and church documents. In addition, the course enables the student to understand their faith as a person of faith and their responsibility as a member of a parish. Each semester students in all grades are required to submit a proposal, perform and write a report for six hours of Christian service. |

| This course will attempt to present to the student an understanding of their obligations as a baptized Christian. The purpose of this course is to examine each sacrament as a sign of Christ's presence in the world today. The scriptural and theological foundations of the sacraments of initiation, healing and service are studied and the celebration of each sacrament is shown to be an encounter of the student with Christ. This course will enable a student to fully participate in the prayerful celebration of the Church's presence in the worshipping community today. The course, also, will discuss the moral obligations of a Christian as a result of their baptism. Each semester students in all grades are required to submit a proposal, perform and write a report for six hours of Christian service. |

| The basic approach to this course is based on the premise that Christian morality centers on what one ought to be as a human person in dialogue with God and others. This course presents the Christian perspective upon which an individual can evaluate his/her own values as well as those of society in which he/she lives. Having arrived at a method of treating ethical questions, the student then addresses himself/herself to the contemporary moral issues of our day including War, Nuclear Power, the Environment, the Death Penalty, Drinking, Drug Abuse, Sexual Morality, Business Ethics and Medical Ethics. Each semester students in all grades are required to submit a proposal, perform, and write a report for six hours of Christian service. |

| In this course students are called to recognize and name some of the injustice in our midst. Students will discover how to analyze some causes of injustice in light of our Catholic faith and tradition. Students will learn how we both as individuals and as a community of faith, should respond to injustice based on Jesus' message of love and equality. This course is a primer on Catholic social justice, an essential and central part of our Catholic faith and life.
Papal encyclicals, the four gospels, and church documents will be the primary sources of this course. Each semester students in all grades are required to submit a proposal, perform and write a report for six hours of Christian service.

| COURSE DESCRIPTION |
| This course addresses the basic life styles that are open to the Christian student. The growth of the human person is present within a Christian context. The course covers the value of relationships, communication skills, romantic love and the theology of marriage, church law in marriage and the development of an understanding of our sexuality. It looks at these principles through the various vocations of marriage, the singles state and the religious life. The purpose of the course is to enable the student to function as a mature adult on an interpersonal level. The course involves several projects. The first project is an autobiography designed to offer the student insight into why they are the person they are. The second project is the marriage project designed to help the student realize the importance of the wedding ceremony and liturgy within the Church. One quarter of the course will deal with the Christian perspective of death to life. Each semester students in all grades are required to submit a proposal, perform, and write a report for six hours of Christian service. |

| COURSE DESCRIPTION |
| This course is an elective and does not fulfill the 4-year Religion requirement. Jesus' message of service is the focus of this course. Each student will do a minimum 96 hours of volunteer service in the community per semester. By serving people in local hospitals, day care centers, churches, nursing homes, etc., the students will have an opportunity to put their Christian beliefs into action. Students will be required to keep a daily log/journal, meet with their moderator at assigned times, and submit a self-evaluation paper at the end of the semester. |
